Introduction

Having been growing palm trees, cycads, bromeliads and other tropical plants for a few years, I thought I would create this blog on the subject. I don't intend to post excessively frequently, but when I come across something that I find interesting, funny or otherwise useful, I will post it here for the benefit of other people who share my fascination for these plant groups.

Being based in the UK and with very little garden space, I have to suffer many frustrations with my hobby. Most of the species that are small enough for me to grow, won't survive in my climate. Most of the species I would like to try, aren't available in the UK, many aren't available in cultivation at all.

I find myself often having to use the internet or visit tropical glasshouses at public gardens to get my fix of palms and other exotic treats. I have even created my own website
Palm Trees, Small Palms, Cycads, Bromeliads & Tropical Plants, which features many of the photos that I have taken during visits to public gardens.

After my small time involved in the world of palm trees, I have discovered that there is an enormous amount to learn and I am still a long way from knowing anything like as much as I would like, so there is plenty of information that I could post here. For the time being though, I want to keep things relatively simple and stick with information that will be useful to most people, either newcomers or experienced growers. As time passes, I will start to include more specific information that may only be of use to the more avid enthusiasts.

Fortunately, as with any community, I guess, there is a wealth of information freely available on the internet, so I will do my best to pick the most useful and relavant stuff and post it here.
